Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty reshapes your nose to improve your appearance or correct medical problems that prevent you from breathing.

Your nose is part of your respiratory system. It allows air to enter your body, filters out particles, and humidifies and warms the air. The nose consists of two cavities separated by a cartilage wall called the septum.

Rhinoplasty is a type of plastic surgery that changes the shape and size of your nose, giving it a new appearance. Surgeons performing this procedure are trained in plastic surgery or facial plastic surgery and can correct a deviated septum or a broken nose.

There are two main types of rhinoplasty procedures: open and closed. Open rhinoplasty is a procedure for reshaping a larger nose, while closed rhinoplasty is for reshaping a smaller nose.

Ultrasonic, Piezo or Diamond Rhinoplasty

The use of ultrasound in rhinoplasty began with surgical procedures related to oral and dental health. This approach aims to cut bone with high-speed vibrations from sound waves. The concept of piezo or ultrasonic rhinoplasty began with the use of this device in the nose.

Preventive Rhinoplasty

Preventive nose surgery is a plastic surgery method that causes as little damage as possible to the nose bridge and natural nose anatomy. Its difference from the classical method is that it does not damage the bones or cartilages of the nose, and shapes the nose with aesthetic interventions made on the tissues under the nose bridge.

Open and Closed Rhinoplasty

Open and closed rhinoplasty is the most preferred method among doctors. Closed rhinoplasty is preferred especially if it involves intervention at the tip of the nose. In contrast, open rhinoplasty is generally used for cartilage and asymmetric disorders and usually results in mild scarring.

Before and After Rhinoplasty

Before surgery, you'll have the opportunity to undergo a consultation to help us understand your surgery expectations. It's crucial to be as transparent as possible at this stage so we can determine the best course of action.

• Quitting smoking at least six weeks before surgery can prevent blood clots and facilitate smoother recovery.
• Avoiding aspirin ensures effective anesthesia.
• Refraining from herbal supplements or anti-inflammatories can prevent interruptions in anesthesia and contribute to a successful recovery.

To ensure the best possible recovery, allow yourself ample time to feel comfortable after surgery by taking at least two weeks off work. Arrange for a friend or family member to pick you up from the hospital to avoid any complications during your recovery.

Nose Tip Aesthetics

Nose tip aesthetics is a type of rhinoplasty specifically aimed at the tip of the nose. The nose tip aesthetic procedure adjusts an already existing tip by elevating the tip of the nose to create a proper angle between the nose and lips. Patients seeking nasal tip rhinoplasty generally do not have any significant problems with the aesthetics of the rest of their nose and only want subtle changes.

Frequently Asked Questions

• Those with a congenital anomaly (birth defect),
• Those wishing to improve their overall appearance,
• Those with obstructed nasal passages (deviated septum),
• Those with a broken nose,
• Those who have lost respiratory function due to illness, cancer treatments, traumatic injuries, or burns,

are suitable candidates for rhinoplasty. Many people are self-conscious about the shape of their nose and undergo rhinoplasty for aesthetic reasons (to improve the appearance of their nose). If this is the case, the purpose of the surgery will be to enhance the aesthetics and correct the appearance of your nose.

To minimize swelling and preserve the new shape of your nose during recovery, a small plastic splint will be applied. You will wear the splint for one to two weeks. Cotton gauze (packing) may be placed inside your nose. You can typically remove the packing within 24 to 48 hours after surgery, following your surgeon's instructions. Swelling and bruising around your nose and eyes may occur for several weeks. Up to a year after surgery, you may experience mild facial swelling, particularly in the mornings.

Approximately four to six weeks after your surgery, you will experience gradually decreasing swelling. Between three months and a year, your nose will still be healing, and swelling may persist during this time. Once your nose has fully healed, typically after a year, you will see the final results. The timeline for recovery varies for each individual.

Choosing a Doctor in Rhinoplasty

When deciding to undergo nose surgery, it's also a time to address any breathing problems that bother you. Weeks before performing your nose surgery, your doctor will thoroughly examine your nose during the initial consultation to identify functional issues and may request additional tests to better understand the degree of obstruction.

Following a comprehensive examination, a surgical plan will be developed that addresses both the shape and function of your nose. It is crucial to choose an experienced cosmetic surgeon who has successfully performed similar operations before, to ensure that all procedures are carried out accurately and without error.
